What is Lightfoot?
Lightfoot is connected car technology that may improve driver behaviour in real time. The Lightfoot device sits on your dashboard and connects to your on-board computer. It displays lights–from green to orange to red–and/or issues voice commands to let guests know they’re driving efficiently or warn them of poor behaviour, such as accelerating or braking harshly.
Why do I need to install Lightfoot?
Turo requires certain hosts with high claims rates or a record of maintenance-related incidents to install a Lightfoot device to stay listed on Turo. Turo will subsidise the cost of your Lightfoot device, so it’s free to you. A Lightfoot device is not covered under a Turo host protection plan.
How can Lightfoot benefit me?
Lightfoot is proven to reduce a guest’s chance of being involved in an accident. It also reduces wear and tear on your vehicle. This means your vehicle is less likely to be in the repair shop. That could mean more bookings and more earnings for you.
Lightfoot also benefits your guests by allowing Turo to pinpoint their location in the event of an incident.
What information will it show?
Through the Lightfoot app you’ll be able to see:
- driving behaviour
- location of the vehicle (trip start/end)
- mileage traveled
- vehicle information such as fault codes
- Lightfoot device health information
- loss of power
- vehicle communications
How does installation work?
Once you receive your Lightfoot device, simply plug it into your OBD port. If you have Turo Go installed, you can connect both devices through the use of an OBD splitter.
How do I let my guests know I’m using Lightfoot?
You’re required to notify your guest about Lightfoot in two places: your vehicle description and your welcome message.
You must insert the following sentence in your vehicle description:
“Please note: this car is equipped with a device that collects driving data. This includes vehicle location, mileage, vehicle faults, driving behaviour, and time driven. If you want to have this device switched off ahead of your trip, read “Driving with Lightfoot–UK” in the Turo Help Center after booking the car.”
You must also insert the following message in your Welcome Message to guests:
Thanks for booking! A reminder, a device that makes driving smoother is installed. If you’d like it switched off, read “Driving with Lightfoot–UK” in the Turo Help Center
You can find 'Welcome Message' within your Guest Instructions tab of your vehicle dashboard
