Turo typically only accepts permanent licenses, but we do accept certain temporary licenses as long as they meet the following requirements:
- License is valid at the start and through the end of the trip
- Has a photo directly on the temporary license, or also has a secondary government-issued photo ID
- Has no restrictions (e.g. no “daytime driving only,” no provisional licenses)
If you’re using the Turo app for your mobile phone, you can refer to the guided handoff process for details about what to look for when you’re checking your guest’s driver’s license. Sometimes your guest may go by a different name than the one on their license. We’ll show you the legal name and date of birth that should be appearing on the license to confirm their identity.
We highly recommend contacting Turo directly if you’re unsure on whether or not the temporary license your guest has is acceptable. You can reach out to us by calling 1 (415) 965-4525 and selecting extension 7.
