UK requirements for adding a driver
Due to insurance requirements, your additional driver must provide Turo with extra information before we can approve them to drive on a trip that starts and ends in the United Kingdom. Only additional drivers approved by Turo before a trip starts are permitted to drive on a trip. You can’t add a driver to an in-progress trip. If you allow an unapproved driver to operate the vehicle, you’ll be in violation of Turo’s prohibited uses policy and will void your protection plan. You as the primary guest must be present at the start and end of the trip. You are financially responsible for any and all costs related to the trip. That includes any costs incurred while the additional driver is driving.
Turo requires additional drivers in the UK to go through its verification process. The additional driver must create their own Turo account with all of their own information. This includes their own license information, email address, and personal cell phone. Once they’ve done so, they should send the information listed below to support.turo.com. Turo will run extra checks on the additional driver to determine whether they can drive on the Turo trip.
- Photos of the front and back of their driver’s license.
- A “selfie” photo of the additional driver holding the license next to their face.
- The DVLA check code so Turo can verify their driver’s license history. Learn how to retrieve a DVLA check code.
- The email address on their Turo account.
- The reservation number of the trip that the additional driver would like to be added to.
Once we’ve approved an additional driver for a trip in the UK, Turo will notify them via the email provided. We’ll also notate the approval in our system, but you won't see if when you view the details page for the trip. Additional drivers must be reapproved via this process for any future trips. If we don’t approve an additional driver, we’ll notify you, the host, and the additional driver that they can’t drive the car during the trip.
