Extras are an optional feature designed to make your guests’ experiences more fun and convenient, and for you to earn extra money! Convenience (non-physical) Extras, like post-trip cleaning or prepaid refueling, can be especially popular and helpful to you and your guests, if you price them properly and understand how they work.
How does the prepaid refueling or prepaid EV recharge Extra work?
Offering the prepaid refueling or EV recharge Extra means your guest is not required to refuel your car before returning it to you. This can be convenient for guests who know they’ll be in a hurry at the end of the trip. We recommend making sure you price this with both the cost of refueling your tank and your time spent refueling your car in mind, as you can’t charge a guest after the trip for missing fuel if they buy prepaid refueling or EV recharging as an Extra. Guests are more likely to purchase this as a per-trip option than a per-day option.
How does the unlimited mileage Extra work?
The unlimited mileage Extra allows your guest to go over the maximum miles or kilometres that you’ve set as included for the trip. If you offer this Extra and your guest paid for this, you won’t be able to charge a guest after a trip ends if they exceeded the allotted mileage. We highly recommend pricing this as a per-day option (as opposed to per-trip), to make sure you account for any extra wear and tear your vehicle might receive if your guest ends up extending their trip.
How does the post-trip cleaning Extra work?
With the post-trip cleaning Extra, guests expect not to have to clean your vehicle before returning it to you. We recommend pricing this as a per-trip option to be more appealing to your guests. You won’t be able to charge a guest for cleaning charges if they paid for post-trip cleaning. In cases of extreme cleanliness issues, we recommend reviewing our Cleaning Policy and reaching out to our Customer Support team if you feel the post-trip cleaning fee you set is not enough to cover the cleanliness issues caused by your guest.
How does the one-way Extra option work?
If your guest purchases a one-way trip Extra, they will pick up the car at your set location, but don’t have to return the car to the same place. We highly recommend making sure you’re as detailed as possible with your description in saying what you can and can’t do for one-way trips (for example, maybe you’ll be fine with getting your car from two cities over, but not across the country), and coordinating the details carefully with your guest before the trip starts. It’s expected that any additional costs related to retrieving your own vehicle at the end of the trip is built into the price, so make sure you price this carefully!
Remember that Extras are not mandatory -- a guest doesn’t need to purchase any Extras you offer for your vehicles. Keeping in mind which of your guests purchased Extras and which didn’t will help if you ever need to make a Reimbursement request for something missing at the end of a trip. You can see any Extras your guests purchased with a reservation in Trip Details in the Turo app or website.
