Providing discounts for longer trips helps encourage guests to book your car for more days. That, in turn, may increase your earnings.
How do I set a discount?
You can set weekly and monthly discounts from the “Pricing" section of your car listing by entering the percentage discount that you’d like to offer. Hosts who use Automatic Pricing can also set discounts. The lowest price you can set is $10/day*.
A weekly percentage discount will apply to all trips that are seven days to one calendar month long. A monthly percentage discount will apply to all trips that are one calendar month or longer.
How is a discount calculated?
To calculate the discount, we add up all of the prices of each day in a week (or calendar month). Then we factor in any changes you've made to daily prices, and apply the percentage discount to the total. The percentage discount is applied to the cost of each day in the trip. That includes days for which you’ve set a custom price.
How is the discount applied to a trip?
When a guest books a trip, the system charges them the lowest total. This is based on the vehicle's listed rates and discounts. In other words, we price match shorter trips so that they do not exceed the cost of a discounted weekly or monthly trip.
For example, if a guest books a trip for six days, we charge them the daily price of that vehicle six times. If they book a trip for seven days, though, the weekly percentage discount would apply to the cost of the total trip. If a six-day trip would be more expensive than a seven-day trip based on your daily prices and set discount, the system would charge the less expensive price.
This applies to long-term trips as well. Let's say a guest wants to add a third week onto their two-week trip. The system would charge them for the cost of an extra week. But, if a guest extends a one-week trip for a week four times, such that they end up having the car for more than a month, we would cap the overall cost of the trip at the monthly rate.
Will my host earnings ever be reduced because of a discount?
We will never reduce the original amount a guest paid for a trip. For example, if your guest extends an in-progress trip, and your percentage discount would result in a reduced rate for a trip of this new, extended length, we would not reduce your host earnings nor refund the guest. We would only charge the guest an extension fee.
