This article is relevant only for US hosts, as the Basic host protection plan is not currently available in Canada, Germany, or the UK.
The “‘Basic” option enable hosts to keep more of the trip price by, among other things, accepting some of the potential cost of car damage incurred during a trip.
If your car is damaged, and the damage is eligible for coverage, Turo will pay you the first 20% of any covered physical damage costs up to $3,750, and 100% of the damage cost over and above that amount. You are responsible for the first 80%, up to $3,750, and 0% above $3,750.
Your vehicle is involved in a minor incident, with covered damage of $2,500. Turo pays you $500. Any additional amounts to repair the car would come from your own pocket. The calculation:
- Turo covers 20% of the first $3,750. 20% * $2,500 = $500
- Turo covers 100% of the cost above $3,750, which is $0
- Total: $500 + $0 = $500
Your vehicle is involved in a major accident, with covered damage of $10,000. Turo pays you $7,000.
- Turo covers 20% of the first $3,750. 20% * $3750 = $750.
- Turo covers 100% of the cost above $3,750. $10,000 - $3,750,= $6,250.
- Total: $750 + $6,250 = $7,000
The difference between the $7,000 you receive and the $10,000 damage cost is the $3,000 deductible, which you are responsible for from your own pocket.
*Please note that you may not demand any payment for deductible or damage directly from your guest.
