Why do I need to take trip photos?
Trip photos document pre-existing damage before you begin your trip and the condition of the car when you return it. Photos protect you from damage charges or reimbursements you’re not responsible for. They allow you and your host to easily manage reimbursement requests for refueling and additional distance costs, cleaning and smoking fees, and damage claims. Turo relies on trip photos to settle any payment disputes, confirm late return claims, and monitor vehicle safety. All guests, including Turo Go guests, must take pre- and post-trip photos that fully and accurately document the car’s interior and exterior condition. Upload all photos before you begin driving and immediately after returning the vehicle. Download the Turo app for iOS or Android before your trip. It’ll help you take photos, apply a timestamp, and upload your pictures. If you don’t have the app, check that your camera accurately retains metadata to show the date and time you took a photo. Upload your pictures to the Trip photos section on your booked trip page.
What photos should I take before and after my trip?
Take clear, well-lit, and detailed photos of the vehicle’s interior and exterior. Capture the same views of the car before and after your trip so it’s easy to compare the two. Look for and capture any dents, scratches, cracks, or scrapes. Take photos that document the car’s cleanliness, and take pictures of any stains, spills, or debris. Photograph the dashboard and clearly document the fuel/charge level, and odometer reading. In the event of a reimbursement dispute or damage claim, Turo will use these photos to resolve the issue. At minimum, your photos should include:
Interior photos
- The dashboard showing the fuel and mileage level
- The front and back seats and front and back floorboards showing the cleanliness and/or any issues with the inside of the car
Exterior photos
- Wide-shot photos of the front, rear, and sides showing cleanliness and condition
- Close-up photos of any physical issues such as scratches, dents, etc
- Clear, close-up photos of each wheel, tire, and bumper
- Clear, well-lit photos of any part of the vehicle that has a pre-existing issue
