Do I have to clean the car at the end of a trip?
Guests aren’t expected to clean or disinfect the car upon return, though if you return the car in a condition that requires moderate, heavy or severe cleaning you may be charged a cleaning fee. (See cleaning levels table in the Cleaning and disinfection policy). To avoid fees, vacuum up excessive dirt, sand, or crumbs, wipe up any sticky spots or spills, and check the exterior for any significant dirt or mud that may need to be washed off.
What happens if I don’t clean the car?
If you return the car significantly dirtier, the host may request a cleaning reimbursement fee. Cleaning fees range from up to $50 for moderate cleaning to a maximum of $250*, depending on severity. They include an administrative fee of up to $25. Hosts have up to 72 hours after a trip’s end to request reimbursement for cleaning. We suggest you take multiple interior and exterior photos of the car at check-in and checkout and upload those pictures to Trip Photos. This allows us to fairly resolve any cleaning reimbursement requests. Read detailed information about documenting a vehicle’s condition. If you book a trip with a Commercial Host, they’ll contact you directly to collect any cleaning costs.
Some hosts offer a Cleaning Extra, which would allow you to return the car without cleaning it. Learn more about adding Extras to your trip. Read our Cleaning and disinfection policy to learn your rights and responsibilities when it comes to receiving and returning a clean car.
