Our Terms of Service state, "You agree to comply with any and all applicable laws and regulations, including registration and minimum insurance requirements for your car."
Please check your state laws for specific registration requirements. As a general matter, states require that you demonstrate "financial responsibility" in order to register your car, which is usually accomplished through insurance. The insurance provided through the Turo marketplace may not be used satisfy those requirements.
Canadian owners who are opted into Turo’s standard person-to-person platform currently need to be insured with Intact Insurance, belairdirect, Novex Insurance, Jevco, La Capitale General Insurance, L'Unique General Insurance, Industrial Alliance, SSQ General Insurance Company, Desjardins Insurance, The Personal, or State Farm® to be able to list their car on the Turo marketplace. Owners outside the provinces of Alberta, Ontario, and Quebec may only list a vehicle on Turo if they can offer commercial rental insurance directly to renters.
Owners in countries outside of the United States and Canada must provide their own rental car insurance directly to their customers that meets minimum applicable requirements in the region to be able to list their car on Turo. Any commercial policy that meet Turo’s requirement may enroll.
Similarly, rental car companies in the United States who decline a protection package must provide commercial rental insurance directly to their customers that meets the minimum insurance requirements in the state of the rental.
If you are a rental car company who has chosen to decline a Turo protection package and provide rental liability coverage to your renter directly, be sure to disclose any additional fees and policies in your listing, and discuss your coverage limits and associated costs extensively with your guest in advance of a trip. You can read more about that here.
