General requirements for booking a car
You must have a Turo account to book a car. If you don’t have one, sign up now with a personal email address or your Facebook account, Google account, or Apple ID. (If you have an issue using Apple ID, log onto appleid.com and remove Turo from the security settings.) To complete sign up, enter the number for a text-enabled mobile phone in your name. You must meet our age requirements to book and should review them before signing up.
Requirements for booking a car differ slightly from region to region and are listed below. But we ask all first-time guests in all locations for: 1) driver’s license number and expiration date; 2) home address; 3) payment method; and 4) photo of themselves for their Turo profile. In some cases, we may ask for additional photos and/or we may check your personal and/or business credit report, auto insurance score, and criminal background. When you create an account, you give Turo written instructions and permission in line with the Fair Credit Reporting Act or similar laws to obtain this information.
You’ll be unable to book if you enter the same information (e.g, email address, driver’s license number, etc), as any other Turo user when creating your account or requesting a trip.Turo has the right to decline your trip request and remove you from the platform because of your auto insurance score, criminal background, driving record, or any other reason. Region-specific requirements for booking
In addition to the general requirements listed above, you must meet the specific requirements in the region where you plan to book.
US:
- Social Security number
- Auto insurance score that meets our benchmark
- Valid permanent license or an acceptable temporary license
- Proof you’ve been driving for at least two years if you’re under age 25, and you may be unable to book with a Commercial Host
Canada:
- Valid permanent license or an acceptable temporary license
- Auto insurance score that meets our benchmark
- Proof you’ve been driving for at least two years if you’re under age 25, and you may be unable to book with a Commercial Host
UK:
- Valid, non-temporary driver's license
- Have been a licensed driver for two years or more
- Under age 25, you must have been accident-free for the past three years and can only book cars identified as Group 1-16 vehicles by the Association of British Insurers.
- Under 25, you may be unable to book with a Commercial Host
Temporary licenses and international driver’s permits
Turo accepts temporary licenses in the US and Canada as long as they are: valid at the start and through the end of the trip, have a photo printed on it, and are free of restrictions/are not provisional. We may accept a temporary license that doesn’t have a photo if you also provide a government-issued photo ID. Turo accepts International Driver’s Permits as long as they’re accompanied by a valid driver’s license issued in your country of residence.
