We know airports can be hectic, so make your life a little easier by booking a car for “curbside delivery”. (Curbside delivery is our shorthand way of referring to all airport-related delivery, even if the delivery may not necessarily be at the curb itself.)
Vehicles that are available for airport pickups and drop-offs will be listed as available at that airport when you search for cars by airports; the listing will include airports that owner will deliver to, and their delivery fee.
Some examples of how owners and travelers have facilitated airport rentals are:
- The owner meets the traveler at the airport at a set time, or based on a call/text from the traveler.
- The owner then arranges for his or her own way home, such as ride-sharing or public transportation.
- Alternatively, the traveler can drive the owner home if this is agreed upon before the trip starts.
- The owner leaves the car at the airport for the traveler, with a key in a lockbox. The traveler would cover the parking cost, or the traveler could discuss covering the parking cost with the owner. (You can consider using the built-in, customizable delivery fee to help cover the cost of parking, too.) At the end of the trip, the traveler drops the vehicle in a designated location, locks the key in the vehicle and secures transportation to the airport from that location.
The mileage and fuel level should be logged at the time of the trip start/key exchange. These are tracked from the moment the trip starts (when the traveler and owner meet for the handoff) until the moment the vehicle is returned and the trip ends (when the traveler has returned the vehicle to the owner). Both owners and travelers should bear this in mind when arranging delivery.
Make sure to choose the right delivery location when booking the car. Different owners can have different ways of delivering the vehicle, so it’s a good idea to confirm delivery details in the message to the owner when you book your trip. Pickup and drop-off occur at the same location, unless a change is requested during the reservation through the Turo website or app, and approved by the owner.
At pickup and drop-off time, owners and travelers can use Turo’s “Location Sharing” feature to ease the rendezvous by seeing each other’s locations on their smartphones. The parties may agree to meet at a cellphone lot, the departures curb, nearby public transport, at an airport-designated meeting place, or any place that is appropriate.
In addition, Turo operates two parking lots near SFO and LAX, to help further facilitate airport rentals. Click to learn more about our Valet Service at these lots.
You can also request to change your delivery location before the trip start or your drop-off location if your trip is in-progress. Once you submit the change request, the owner will be notified and has up to 8 hours to respond (or less, if your trip starts or ends sooner than 8 hours). Locations can only be changed to the places the owner already offers delivery.
With location change requests, the pricing may also change if the fee is different than the original location. Changes during an in-process trip will result in changes for 50% of the delivery fee, since only the drop-off will change.
