Turo charges by the day and hosts can set weekly and monthly discounts. There’s no hourly rate. A “day” in Turo’s system is considered 26 hours.
You may arrange for a trip to begin and end at any mutually agreeable time; however, the smallest unit charged for a trip is a day. The guest may select a duration of up to 26 hours before they are charged for an additional day. When the guest chooses the start and end times when booking, the system will automatically present the applicable pricing.
This structure applies to any new trip or extension. Our article on extensions provides more information.
The guest must return the car at the scheduled time. If no extension is booked, and the car isn't returned, the guest is liable for substantial late fees.
Let’s assume that the total daily trip cost (trip price, trip fee, and protection level chosen) is $34/day for each day of the trip.
Example 1: A typical weekend trip
A. Guest books a trip to start Friday at 5 pm and end Sunday at 3 pm.
Trip total: $68 (24 hours + 22 hours. Considered two days).
B. Guest books a trip to start Friday at 5 pm and end Sunday at 7 pm.
Trip total: still $68 (24 hours + 26 hours. Considered two days).
C. Guest books a trip to start Friday at 5 pm and end Sunday at 7:30 pm.
Trip total: $102 (24 hours + 26 hours and 30 minutes. Considered three days because it has now reached the next “day”).
Example 2: Extension scenarios
A. Guest books a trip to start Friday at 5 pm and end Sunday at 3 pm. At noon on Sunday, the guest realizes that they won’t be able to return the car until 5 pm. They must request an extension for the additional time. If the host approves the extension, they can return the car at 5 pm at no additional cost because the extension results in the trip length changing less than a day.
Trip total: $68 (24 hours + 24 hours; still considered two days).
B. The same guest realizes at noon they won’t be able to return the car until 9 pm. The guest must request an extension. If the host approves it, they can return the car at 9 pm for the cost of an additional day.
Trip total: $102 (24 hours + 26 hours + 2 hours; the second day of the trip has exceeded 26 hours, and the trip is now considered three days long).
