Guests are responsible for replacing the gas used during the rental with the appropriate fuel (i.e., regular, premium, or diesel). Similarly, guests are responsible for recharging electric vehicles before returning them.
If a car has less gas at the end of the trip than it did at the start, the owner may use the Reimbursement tool on their Dashboard to request payment from their guest. Requests must be made within seventy-two (72) hours of the end of the trip. Owners should document the gas levels with pre-trip (check in) and post-trip (check out) photos of the gas gauge. Post-trip photos must be taken no later than twenty-four (24) hours from the end of the trip. These photos must be submitted when an owner requests a gas reimbursement.
Likewise, if an electric vehicle (EV) has a lower electric fuel level at the end of the trip than it did at the start, the owner may also request reimbursement via the Dashboard. The process is the same -- requests must be received with seventy-two (72) hours after the trip ends and include pre- and post-trip photos (taken within twenty-four (24) hours of the end of the trip) of the fuel level.
If the post-trip fuel level does not match the pre-trip fuel level, travelers are charged for the gas purchased by the owner to return the fuel to its original level. In the case of electric vehicles, travelers are charged a $20 fee if the EV is returned half full or less (0%-50%) and a $10 fee if the EV is returned more than half full (51%-90%). There is no charge for electric vehicles returned with a fuel level of 91% or more.
Owners always receive 100% of the fuel fee. If the fuel fee is processed through the Reimbursement tool, an additional 3% payment processing surcharge will be added to the guest’s total. If Turo manually processes the reimbursement, an administrative fee of $25 will be added to the traveler’s cost.
We recommend that owners keep their vehicles fully fueled in order to make it easier for everyone to determine how much the guest should refill. Guests should keep fuel receipts for at least five (5) days in case there is any dispute by the owner.
