You may not list a vehicle with a branded title or one with an unclean Carfax history or a problematic Hire Purchase Information (HPI) check* on Turo. A branded title indicates that a used vehicle has sustained significant damage and/or may potentially be unsafe to drive. Title brands and definitions vary by region but all are prohibited on Turo. Prohibited branded titles include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Salvaged (even if “salvage” does not appear in the title itself due to regional difference)
- Written off
- Odometer Rollback/Inaccurate or inconsistent mileage
- Vehicle that had been declared a total loss at any point
- Flood/Water/Fire Damage/Hail
- Subject to outstanding finance
Similarly, you may not list a vehicle whose title has been “washed.” Because title brand definitions vary by state and country, sometimes a title brand will not transfer to the title in the new state, which means the title becomes "clean." You may not list cars whose titles have been "cleaned" or "washed" by registering them in states where the title brands do not transfer.
If you list a vehicle with a branded or washed title (or any of the conditions mentioned above), you will be in violation of Turo’s policies. We will remove your vehicle from Turo and void your protection plan. We may also temporarily or permanently suspend your Turo account.
