Any significant changes to the trip start time must be made by updating the trip through Turo. If a guest would like to receive the car earlier than the set start of the trip, and you are able to accommodate an earlier giveaway, direct your guest to request a trip modification through the app. You can then accept the request, and give the car away at the new start time. Any modifications to a trip’s scheduled start and end times MUST be accepted and approved via the system for them to be considered valid.
If a guest receives your car outside of the trip’s scheduled start time, your protection plan, and their protection plan, may be voided. If anything were to happen to the car outside of a reservation, neither party would be covered by Turo’s protection plans. This is why it’s very important that any modification to a trip be requested and accepted through the Turo system first!
However, when using the guided handoff in the Turo app, you and your guest will be able to safely exchange the car a bit early if you’re both ready to go. Your guest will be able to check-in an hour before the trip is scheduled to start. If the car is all set, your guest can officially take responsibility for the car and activate the protection plan by sliding the toggle on the last screen. The guided handoff process in the app must be completed in order for this early exchange to be valid, and can only accommodate early trip starts within an hour of the officially-booked start time. For all other early starts, your guest MUST make a trip modification.
